Stolk Orchids is a company with a vision. We don’t focus on short-term results but always aim for the future. Our Phalaenopsis are 100% sustainably grown and we use the latest technology to reduce our energy consumption. We believe in treating our natural resources with respect. This means taking responsibility for the planet and leaving something behind to pass on to the next generations.

Sustainable cultivation

We have been experimenting with organic biostimulating nutrients for many years. These have since been tested extensively and integrated into our cultivation processes, so that the perfect symbiosis is created between the soil and the root systems of the plants. This is good for the environment, as it reduces the need for artificial fertilizers, and is good for the crop as well. The plants become more resilient to stress and build up resistance, resulting in bigger flowers, more intense colours, and a longer shelf life. This is important for you and your customers.

Following the positive results of these organic nutrients, we also started researching the possibilities of non-chemical pest control. Since January 2015 we have been working together with Koppert Biological Systems to explore biological pest control.

Energy savings and environmentally friendly choices

Since the 2008 expansion of the nursery we have taken into account the importance of new ways to save on energy consumption. By using groundwater to regulate the temperature in our greenhouses we have been able to reduce gas consumption by 35%. We are also currently exploring the possibilities for producing our own green energy.

We always separate waste and support recycling. Our trays are made of reused PET and are recycled after use and given a new purpose.

Sustainability is a trending word and is often thrown around carelessly. Stolk Orchids can prove that it is 100% sustainable and is MPS-ProductProof certified. ProductProof is a system that shows that certain active substances have not been used in cultivation by means of a compulsory day registration and independent sampling.
