More than 100 years’ experience

The Stolk Orchids family business was founded at the start of the twentieth century. Founder Jan Stolk started with growing cucumbers. During the Second World War the second generation of Stolks, led by Jan Stolk senior, took over the company.

In 1968 Jan Stolk junior decided to start his own nursery in Waddinxveen and, just like his father, grew lettuce and tomatoes before making the move to ornamental plant cultivation. Coby, Jan Stolk junior’s wife, really loved flowers and hated seeing them being grown without tender love and care. The company started growing orchids in the early 1990s and in 1994 decided to focus on growing Phalaenopsis. Today, Stolk Orchids can proudly claim more than two decades of experience.

Shortly before the new millennium the fourth generation of Stolks entered the family business and Jan-Pieter and Corstiaan now stand at the helm of the company together with their dad. Together, they expanded the company first in 2004 and then again in 2008 to create the five-hectare Phalaenopsis nursery you see today. Third son Jan-Harm, also entered the company in this period and together these four Stolk men run the family business.
